What is the fastest growing sport in America? Pickleball

Pickleball, which is a hybrid of tennis, badminton and ping-pong, is the fastest-growing sport in America. In the five years to the end of 2019, pickleball participation grew by more than 7%, while Americans’ overall activity level stayed flat, according to the Sport & Fitness Industry Association.  Because its perforated ball makes it less intense than tennis, pickleball is a popular sport among seniors, with more than half of its core players over the age of 55.  Lately, the sport has seen a surge in popularity among younger players, too.

With 4.8 million people now playing — almost double the number from just five years ago, according to the Sports and Fitness Industry Association — some of the sport’s devotees are capitalizing on pickleball’s spike in popularity.  The game now has two national professional tournaments, both formed in the last four years, and pickleball organizers are courting corporate sponsors to help grow the sport in the U.S. and abroad as part of a bid for Olympic inclusion.    Wanna learn more?
